Purchase of Trauma Slots
Lets say a character has 3 trauma slots in an archetype: 1 surface, 1 severe, and 1 mortal. That corresponds, I believe, to 2 points in the relative reactive stat?
Then they go out and get themselves traumatized. Twice. Both the surface and the severe are "full", and they take a symptom for the severe trauma.
Now they purchase enough points in said stat to have 5 trauma slots: 2 surface, 2 severe and 1 mortal.
What happens to their trauma? Does the severe point move to the new surface slot? And if so, does the symptom go away?

Re: Purchase of Trauma Slots
Also, does the trauma slot get added before or after trauma is healed or applied for a given month's actions? Can I choose to add if afterward if I want? And if I do that, do I have to defer my other zeal purchases until after my actions, too?

Re: Purchase of Trauma Slots
Ah, asking more questions before the others have even been answered. (Unless Jill beats me to it, she's been online answering questions so she might).
Let's call this 3. I can't find the answer in the book, although I do have it here. Does Lingering Trauma go away when you suffer a Breakdown or Breakthrough?
4. I noticed while looking for the answer to #3, that the book says you can have a breakthrough (change morality and not be crazy for months) if you have "a[n] Aligned Trauma in [your] track" whereas I had been told that it was if you had half or more of your track taken up by aligned. Are you house-ruling (or weirdly interpreting
) this, or is that right? Is *one* aligned trauma enough?

3) No. You have to heal Lingering Trauma separately from all other Trauma, and it's really really really really hard. I *think* a breakdown doesn't affect Lingering Trauma.
4) Yes. That's a good point. I realised the error I'd made in this regard a few months ago, but have forgotten to correct myself. If you have *any aligned Trauma at all*, your Morality will shift if you have a breakdown.
You know, I thought I'd answered the other questions, but for some reason, my responses Are Not Here.
Quick review: No, buying new Archetypes and building more Prowesses on to your sheet does not shift Trauma anywhere. You still have the Trauma where you received it. An explanation for why is: Just because you're able to withstand more Trauma now doesn't mean it makes the Trauma you had before any less traumatic. Also, there are times when you may take Trauma that 'skips' a level (say, someone causes you a Severe Traumatic Wound without hitting your Surface Wound). If you were able to 'shift' that down to Surface Trauma by upping your Reactive Prowess, it would not only completely undermine whatever was used to do that, but it would also make Rehabilitation useless.
And no, the Symptom does not go away until you heal the Severe Trauma. While the New Book (TM) has done away with "Dormant Symptoms", players are still encouraged to remember that they once may have had Symptoms that could very well stay with them. Mechanically, you do not track them. Dramatically, you may choose to do so.

Those are everywhere. They are the socks with individual toes.

Re: Purchase of Trauma Slots
Okay, that answers all my questions, thank you!
(I'll trade you two trauma socks for the shiny fork.)
PS. My trauma socks do not have separate toes. They are the socks Malicia wore for 4 months straight while she was crazy.
