Theme songs!

Post by Love on Sat 17 Oct 2009 - 19:21

I don't see that this has been done before but I apologized if I missed it. I'm kind of bored tonight so I thought I'd start a thread on Character Theme Songs. Music is pretty inspiring for me and generally I'll listen to music to get into character, and generally at some point while I'm looking for a concept for a character I'll flick through my music library to find something to get the ball rolling. I know that this has generally been fun on other larp boards so here goes. Respond with your character's theme song if you want!

Love's theme song started out with a song by A Silver Mt. Zion and the Tra La La B and called 'God Bless Our Dead Marines', but I think she's evolved into a song by Denali called 'French Mistake'. The former song I think is just a great song for the Divine in general, it even mentions angels. The second one is more haunting.

I'm pretty sure a thread was started that talked about emailing your theme song to Jill but I don't think we ever put them out for public perusal. I also cannot find that original thread.

Gabe started out with Happiness by Goldfrapp, a lovely and upbeat tune with moderately disturbing lyrics about a happy-cheery cult-type group. Since then I've moved on to Ghosts by Ladytron for a more pseudo-regretful and ethereal sound.

In general, I've found that Supreme Beings of Leisure are good for getting me into a Providence mood even though I wouldn't choose a theme song from among their offerings. I've yet to find something gritty that gets me in the correct state of mind -- although Iron Maiden does come close sometimes.

For Shamus, the song would be "Johnny I heardly Knew ya" by Dropkick Murphys.

maybe, if there are enough replies, we can make a CD with all of the theme songs to play during the next Census?

Heh.
In fact, I have a spreadsheet from the time we did talk about this a year ago - I was going to put a CD together and hand them out as 'thanks for playing' gifts...but nobody really seemed interested.

Joey - "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" is actually a very old folk tune. I can play you the original some time if you're interested.

I;ve actually heard the original but much prefer the Dropkick Murphys version. It's celtish punk/metal.

Is it a surprise the Bal's theme song is by Rammstein? Mein Teil greatly influenced my feel for Bal, and the video certainly lent something to how I imagined him visually and some of how he moves. I recommend y'all watch it and be horrified. Heh, even more because the song is based off of a true story.

You know, I love Rammstein. I love Rammstein's songs; I love their videos; I love their sound. I have just one thing to ask:

Was that Iggy Pop in ballet slippers?

That's actually Christian "Flake" Lorenz, their keyboardist, in the ballet slippers. But he does do a pretty good Iggy Pop impression now that you mention it...

And I hope it wasn't the ballet slippers that turned you off the video Mark. Cause, seriously, they're the least disturbing thing in there. Though, really, the real life story the song is based on is far more disturbing than the song could ever be.

Video is still definitely worth a watch though. If I could be even half as disturbing playing Bal as Till Lindemann is...well, as Till is at any any time, but especially in this video - well, I'd be very happy. After all, in the video he is simultaniously cannibalizing and being gone down on by a freaking angel...

Is this an indication Jill has a thing for Till, a thing for eating angels, or a thing for being gone down on by angels? Or some combination of the three?

No Wade, the slippers were NOT what made me not want to watch that video. Wiki-ing it and reading the first few sentences did that.

Well, it appears the copyright police have raided YouTube and I can't find the album versions of my theme songs...but alas...

The primary song that I associate with Jordan is "Darklands" by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Although, in my more Prudent moments, I also consider "Cuts You Up" by Peter Murphy.

And naturally my first post in the forums goes to the theme song thread.

I managed to stumble upon a song that is about perfect for Tara in terms of tone: Last Girl on Earth by Supreme Beings of Leisure. I love this song.

Sadly, no creepy music video to match Bal's.

Rebecca's song for the last several months has been "God Help Me" by Jesus and Mary Chain.

I don't think He listened though. Smile

Ok so I've tried to post my Theme songs about five times, we're gonna try this one more time.

For most of the time "Brighter Hell" by The Watchmen covers Adam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH6g0WVIf9A&feature=related

Sometimes tho it's "I am the Man" by The Philosopher Kings, which I cannot find except for a crappy home video from a concert in S'toon.

A heavy dose of David Usher usually helps me get into character as well when these aren't around.

I have a hard time doing this usually, but it just clicked for me.

For Molior, a combination of two:

Fidelity, by Regina Spektor

Maenam, by Jami Seiber - the first song from the Braid Soundtrack
